Alan Carter
It is with regret that the WHUA has to inform its members that Alan Carter, a WHUA life member, passed away on December 31st.
Alan was heavily involved with the WHUA for many years and will be missed by all that knew him. Alan was not only an FIH Umpire and international official but past president of the WHUA. He also took on the role of President of the Welsh Hockey Association (WHA) after having been vice Chairman. Following the merger of the men and women's associations Alan held the role of Vice Chair of the Welsh Hockey Union (WHU). Alan was a life member of WHUA. Alan loved his hockey and was a long standing member of his local club Penarth. Described by many as one of life's gentlemen, Alan was somebody who could always be turned to for advice and was always willing to help younger umpires progress up the umpiring ladder. Alan's funeral will take place in Sully Church on 23rd January 3pm and Cardiff & Vale Cremetorium at 4pm. Viv Davies
Viv Davies also passed away over the last few days and his contribution to hockey in the South Wales area cannot be underestimated. Having spent a number of years at City Hall HC he moved to Newport HC where he spent considerable years as a valued umpire and committee member. Viv also worked on the international scene when he was appointed as Manager of the U-18 Boys squad but he will probably be best known for his meticulous organisation and planning behind the invitational club, The Vandals, a South Wales select touring and social team.
Viv’s funeral will be held on Monday 22 January, service at St Mark’s Church, Gold Tops at 11.30 followed by private committal. Family flowers only please. Donations if desired payable to Velindre Fundraising may be sent c/o Tovey Bros, 9/11 Cardiff Road, Newport NP20 2EH. |
