Don AdamsIt is with regret that the WHUA has to inform its members that Don Adams has passed away. Don passed on the 19th October after suffering from pneumonia for a few weeks.
Don was a great member of the hockey family although he came to hockey from rugby having played as a wing for Wales against the Combined Services in 1964. Don played his hockey for Llanishen for a number of years until he eventually took up the whistle. Don reached the dizzy heights of FIH International and undertook a number of internationals at home and around Europe. He continued umpiring after finishing his International career and was a very well known and respected umpire for not only his understanding of the game but or his quick comments and all before Nigel Owen became renowned. He was a member for a number of years of the WHUA Executive and was Chief Coach and a Selector for both National and South Wales!! Don will be remembered for his encouragement and good humour to all umpires and missed by all who knew him. The funeral will be held at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 19 Coychurch Road, Bridgend, CF31 3AP on 8 Nov at 10:30 followed by a service at Pencoed Cemetery, Felindre Road, Pencoed CF35 5HZ. Refreshments will then be available at the Pantruthyn Hotel, Pencoed CF35 5HY. The thoughts of the WHUA are with his family at this sad time. |
