Umpire Development Programme Group 11The Umpire Development Programme (UDP) was established by the European Hockey Federation over 10 years ago. It targets talented young umpires within Europe and provides a programme of events running over a three year period. The programme is planned by two Mentors who provide personal tuition and guidance through the duration of the program. These events may take the form of seminars, events and practical weekends.
This year Welsh Hockey Umpires Association are proud to announce that Kevin Roberts managed to successfully apply for this group. |
When asked about his thoughts about getting on the UDP Kevin said:
Getting accepted onto the UDP after just 1 year on the Umpires 4 Europe programme was amongst the biggest development steps I’ve taken since taking up the whistle. I am fortunate to have two vastly experienced mentors in Jean Duncan and Mark Knulle, and look forward to what the next three years will bring. When asked about the first weekend on the UDP Kevin said:
The first weekend was really eye opening, we explored various mental aspects of umpiring including mental fitness, the psychology involved with umpiring and dealing with conflict situation. I took a lot from the weekend and I'm looking forward to putting these things into practice over the coming months. Kevin would like to pass on his thanks to the EHF for the opportunity to take part in the programme, and both Hockey Wales and the WHUA for all the support received. |
